 Job Title:Business Analyst

 Description:This position will act as a Business Analyst working as part of a larger team by providing appropriate expertise and guidance to fulfill the project requirements for transition of the customer’s current network to a managed services contract.   Specific assignment area supports the rollout and transition of a complex enterprise MPLS network including: site preparation and planning, schedule coordination, vendor interaction and task monitoring.  The contract is to provide support for the process of transitioning over 800 sites from government-owned and -operated data telecommunications to a performance-based contract, wherein the new vendor will have ownership of the equipment as well as operational requirements. This position will also be responsible for maintaining the status of the implementation; providing regular and ad hoc status reports and working with vendor and site representatives to resolve any scheduling or property transition issues that arise. This position requires a solid understanding of telecommunications, and WAN rollout activities, including interoperability and activity sequencing for site preparation and circuit installation. Responsibilities include:
  • Planning – Define work breakdown structures, schedules and milestones.  Determine what is needed to successfully complete the project and identify next steps.  Clarify tasks and develop strategy for task completion.
  • Process Development - Assist with defining and documenting transition and business processes. Participate in the development and implementation of standard project management processes, including schedule management; risk and issue management; and change and configuration management.  
  • Reports and Communications - Track and report according on both an ad hoc and recurring basis.  Participate in the development of presentations and the documentation of deliverables. 
  • Meeting Support - Facilitate various meetings and create meeting minutes.  Prepare meeting materials and briefings.
  • Data Collection and Analysis - Identify and facilitate the collection of transition and technical data.  Perform analysis on data and document results.
  • Project Documentation – Work with other project team members (both company and government) to determine the document contents. Create, format and prepare complex project documentation and deliverables on time with minimum errors.  Documents will have many imbedded graphics, tables, diagrams and pictures.  Update documents as required and maintain version control for all documents using SharePoint. Conduct document reviews with client and project team.

The Business Analyst is also responsible for identifying opportunities and managing IT activities that meet current and future business requirements.  Limited amount of travel within the metro DC area may be required, but the majority of the time will be spent at the client site.

Experience:

  • 5 years of professional or consulting work experience in IT or related environment
  • 3 years experience working with Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio
  • 3 years experience with Microsoft Project or equivalent tool
  • 3 years experience with project management methodologies
  • Experience with IT lifecycle methodologies and supporting documentation is highly desirable
  • Experience with document management tools such as SharePoint is highly desirable
  • Experience working on site in a government client setting is highly desirable
  • Experience working in a telecommunications environment highly desirable
Education / Certification:
  • BS in engineering, computer science or other IT related field preferred
  • PMP or ITIL certification preferred
  • Ability to pass IRS Minimum Background Investigation (MBI)
